Lyrics
Verse 1
I shaved with the kitchen mirror foggedFound your red dress on the bedroom chairYou said, “Don’t make me wait all night”I said, “Baby, I’m already there”Your brother’s truck rolled past the gateDust climbed up behind the tiresI brought two tickets and a crooked grinYou brought that look that starts a fire
Pre‑Chorus
So lock the door, let the porch light swingWe’ve got a little money and a lot to spendClap your hands when the snare rolls inTonight we’re trouble, tonight we’re friends
Chorus
Come on, darling, Tanuki ThunderA date-night riot under painted signsWe’ll split the fire, steal each other’s friesAnd leave our worries on the county lineCome on, darling, don’t you wonderHow good forever feels for one more night?Tanuki Thunder, pull me closerYou’re the best kind of trouble in my life
Verse 2
The hostess gave us table number nineYour boots tapped time beneath the boothYou leaned across that paper menuAnd told me every beautiful truthA little trumpet curled through the roomCabasa rattled like a trainYou laughed so hard at my bad jokeI’d make it bad a thousand ways
Pre‑Chorus
The glasses sweat, the kitchen roarsYour hand found mine beside the saltIf love’s a dare, then raise the stakesI’m not afraid of what we’ve got
Chorus
Come on, darling, Tanuki ThunderA date-night riot under painted signsWe’ll split the fire, steal each other’s friesAnd leave our worries on the county lineCome on, darling, don’t you wonderHow good forever feels for one more night?Tanuki Thunder, pull me closerYou’re the best kind of trouble in my life
Bridge
When the bill came, you drew a heartRight where the tip was meant to goI wrote, “Meet me here when we’re old”You said, “You better keep your word, you know”The band struck up, the room leaned inYour cheek against my weathered coatFor all the roads I’ve run beforeYou’re the only place I want to go
Final Chorus
Come on, darling, Tanuki ThunderLet the whole wide borderland hear us tonightWe’ll split the fire, steal each other’s friesAnd leave our worries on the county lineCome on, darling, don’t you wonderHow good forever feels when you hold me tight?Tanuki Thunder, pull me closerYou’re the best kind of trouble in my life
Outro
Tanuki Thunder, one more roundYour hand in mine, no slowing downTanuki Thunder, one more nightYou and me, and the world feels right
