Lyrics
Verse 1
He had a crease in his hatAnd a grin like sinSlid one slow dance by meThen he vanished againLeft his glass by the doorLeft my heart in a spinNow I’m tying my bootsThinking where he’s been
Pre‑Chorus
If that truck comes rollingUp the gravel driveI’ll be the first oneAt the edge of the nightGot my red hair pinned upGot my fool pride downIf he’s gonna come backHe best come back now
Chorus
Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightWill he walk back inAnd set this place alight?Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightI’m keeping one chair warmAnd one eye on the road tonight
Verse 2
Bartender knows my orderDon’t even ask my nameSays that man with the dimplesLeft me his jacket nameI laughed, but I kept itFolded on my seatNow every little shadowGot me tap-tap-tap in my feet
Pre‑Chorus
If that door swings openAnd I hear his bootsI’ll act like I don’t careWhile my heart tells the truthGot my smile loaded readyGot my nerves held downIf he’s gonna come backHe best come back now
Chorus
Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightWill he walk back inAnd set this place alight?Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightI’m keeping one chair warmAnd one eye on the road tonight
Bridge
Maybe he’s a midnight drifterMaybe he’s a bad ideaMaybe that’s the reasonI still want him hereIf he comes in laughingWith that trouble in his eyesI won’t ask for foreverJust don’t let this night go dry
Chorus
Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightWill he walk back inAnd set this place alight?Tanuki Thunder tonightTanuki Thunder tonightI’m keeping one chair warmAnd one eye on the road tonight
Outro
