Verse 1
Strings are worn and the neck’s got scarsCarried me through a hundred barsPlayed for tips and played for freeThis old guitar still sings for me This old guitar knows every mileEvery heartbreak and every smileHank’s fire and Merle’s steady handThis old guitar understands [Instrumental Solo 1][Verse 2]Nights got lonely and the road got longBut the wood and wire kept me strongOne more song when the world felt wrongThis old guitar’s my oldest song This old guitar knows every mileEvery heartbreak and every smileHank’s fire and Merle’s steady handThis old guitar understands [Instrumental Solo 2]One more chord before the night is throughIt always knows just what to do [Verse 3]When my time comes and the lights go dimLeave this guitar for the next like himIt’ll keep on talking long after I’m goneThis old guitar will carry on This old guitar knows every mileEvery heartbreak and every smileHank’s fire and Merle’s steady handThis old guitar understands
